There is concern over the use of an ingredient in fireworks (magnesium) to create lightweight parts for a car, sporting equipment, medicine, etc. True, magnesium reacts to fire with very bright and extremely high heat flame. It can also have an explosive reaction with water. The explosive nature of the metal has naturally given the magnesium alloy a misguided reputation of exploding while in use in a car or piece of aerospace equipment. Engine parts made of magnesium alloys have been the most unfortunate, as engines are known to get extremely hot from normal operation.
How NOT to start a magnesium fire
The high heat from the engine is also a concern for car buyers. As the engine runs, it reaches very high temperatures. Dust and shavings from the magnesium cast block can potentially ignite in such an environment. However, the cooling systems built into the cars using the magnesium engines prevent the high heat from becoming an issue. Proper maintenance can catch a problem that will produce metal shavings before they become a fire hazard as well.
However, magnesium alloys do not ignite unless exposed to flame or heat that is much hotter than that produced by a working engine. The metal burns at temperatures in excess of 3,600 degrees Fahrenheit or 2,000 degrees Celsius. However, the magnesium is not a metal that ignites when in the air. Furthermore, you can’t start a fire by throwing water on a magnesium engine. The fire must be ignited in order to cause the magnesium to burn.
Putting out magnesium fires
It is true that magnesium does cause the hydrogen and oxygen molecules in water to combust, only adding to the fire. To extinguish a magnesium fire, use sodium chloride (also known as salt). The special chemical fire extinguishers recommended for magnesium fires use a powder made of table salt to smother the fire, without causing another chemical combustion. These extinguishers are considered Class D fire extinguishers and are a good idea for owners of magnesium block engines.

What Are Drybreak Couplings and Their Uses?
During the early 1950’s fluid and petrochemical industries were in need for a solution to avoid spillage of liquids. It was important not to take contaminated liquid directly from the storage tank in factories due to health risks. This was the time when dry-break systems came into play through which accidental spills of hazardous liquid could be avoided. The term ‘dry-break’ was invented by Emco Wheaton in 1950s after which it became a standard term for the storage industry. It was applicable to all kinds of industries in which spill-free storage of liquid between two components was mandatory.
What are Dry-Break Manufacturing Companies Couplings?
Drybreak couplings are also known as dry break couplers or dry disconnect couplings. One needs to take into consideration about fluid and vapor loss at work places where liquid spill is considered harmful to the environment. This is where such couplings came into pictures to ensure safe fluid handling solutions and spill-free transfer of hazardous liquids like petro-chemical. They are widely used in agricultural equipments, petro-chemical industries, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and food industries as they form a strong hose connection of flow lines.
This device works on flow-shut mechanism and automatically seals the hose when disconnected making it a perfect option where there are chances of fluid loss. This is one of best alternative where cleanliness and fluid split can be major concerns. It is environment as well as employee friendly. You can go for a range of drybreak couplings for bulk of fluid transfer and there is nothing to worry about even if the fluid is inflammable, toxic, corrosive or hazardous. They are a good investment for industries because it is operated in seconds without the help of any tools. In the way they reduce the risk of human errors which might occur accidentally.

Top 10 Tell Tale Signs of Industrial Monitor Failure
Industrial monitors, operator panels and touch screens can be found in almost all production environments. Operators have become reliant on the tactile interface and visual feedback offered by these devices. It is therefore no surprise that monitor failure can cause major disruption to a manufacturer’s production schedule.
Unfortunately replacing a broken industrial monitor can be more difficult than you imagine. Weird video signals, software problems and communication protocols can turn replacing a faulty industrial monitor into an almost American Run Multinational impossible task. Fortunately help is at hand. In this article, Steve Turner, Head of Repairs at Direct-Industrial will tell you how you can spot the tell tale signs of monitor failure and how they can be avoided.
—Replacing an Industrial Monitor. It can be more difficult than you think —
As we have already touched upon, replacing an industrial monitor can be very difficult for several reasons. In the past conventional CRT monitors were adapted to the design specifications of the OEM and therefore have oddball video signals that cannot be easily replicated. A replacement monitor may require extensive modifications to the machine or an additional video card. To compound issues many monitor manufacturers have ceased production of CRT monitors and concentrated on producing LCD monitors.
Industrial CRT monitors were eventually replaced by more complex LCD monitors, Panel PCs and touch screens. Each generation introduced an array of new features and communication standards. This in turn resulted in a unique set of problems for manufacturers. Due to the rapid advancement of technology the features found Automobile Is Heavy Industry on older monitors may no longer be commercially available. This is particularly true for Panel PCs, which may use outdated operating systems or obsolete communication protocols and connectors. This often means no direct replacement is available and the user must rewrite the application programme for the new unit.
It would be nice if industrial monitors never failed and just continued to work. Unfortunately, with the exception of Mick Jagger, nothing lasts forever but it is a fact that the majority of industrial monitor problems can be avoided through preventative maintenance.
So why do so many companies neglect to include monitors in their preventative maintenance schedule?
One problem is that many maintenance staff do not understand what goes on inside a monitor and do not understand the tell tale signs of monitor failure. It is often too late when the monitor finally fails. In this article we will tell you what to look out for.
Top 10 Signs that your Industrial Monitor may have a Problem

BP Solar Closes Maryland Plant Due to Market Competition
Though BP Solar is a big name in the renewable energy industry and maintains steady investment in wind energy technology, its efforts in solar development have endured a significant blow.
In March 2010, the company announced that it would be ceasing operations at their Frederick, Maryland manufacturing facility. BP Solar opened the facility just three and a half Stuart Cinema Nyc years ago. With lower cost solar materials and equipment being imported from China and even India, BP Solar simply determined the move to be the most financially practical.
Out of 430 employees at the Frederick plant, 320 were laid off. Production involved with silicon casting, wafering, and cell manufacturing was ceased and all workers associated with these departments lost their jobs. BP Solar plans to shift all the remaining in-house manufacturing to other low-cost joint ventures to ultimately become more affordable to their market. Sales and marketing, research and technology, project development and other business support functions will remain.
Reyad Fezzani, CEO of BP Solar, stated “Solar prices declined between 40 and 50 percent since the onset of the financial and economic crisis, compressing Tools Used In Industry margins and driving solar power towards grid competitive pricing.” To combat this decrease in pricing, solar companies have looked to decrease costs. One of the ways to decrease costs is to hire cheaper labor in foreign countries, which is what BP has done.
Beginning in the first quarter of 2009, BP Solar also closed several other high-cost manufacturing locations and consequentially reduced their prices by 45%. Most solar companies have found themselves drastically lowering their inventory values due to strong international competition and depressed silicon prices.…
