This year, I was fortunate enough to attend the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU)’s School of Design Annual show. The school recognized that design is no longer a “one-way street” and that the underlying theme for the show would be “Response”. This was chosen to emphasize communication and interaction in the making of good design. Here are some interesting design concepts I came across:
Satisfact10n Certificate Ii In Electrotechnology Studies by Amy Ling
Satisfact10n provides not only tips to make traditional Chinese cooking easy, but also the knowledge in its ingredients’ nutritional values. It is a platform where customers can exchange cooking tips and health knowledge. It aims at continuing the affinities carried in a traditional Chinese grocery store where the personal relationship between the shop owner and the customer is treasured.
Loner Lamp by Lai Cheuk Kee
The Loner Lamp is an interesting concept exploring themes of loneliness and companionship from the creative mind of Cheuk Kee. Where your typical lamp turns on when you switch it on, the Loner Lamp only lights up when you hold onto the handle. Once you put it down, it ceases to light up until someone else picks it up again.
CAP by Amos Woo and Sharon Ng
“CAP” is a pinhole camera which uses recycled paper to make its body and the skeleton. This project aims to remind people about the need to pay attention to the Earth’s resources. “We want people to be impressed with the possibility of paper molding by making a pinhole camera. We designed (the camera) to use the most simple mechanism in taking pictures,” say Amos and Sharon.
Adding to their eco-initiatives, the pinhole camera actually has another extension where a plastic bottle can be used as a tripod for long exposure photos. “We also designed a joint for the camera to adapt to plastic bottles selling on the market as a tripod for the long exposure of photos. This came from our own experiences as pinhole camera users. We believe this can really help users as they can have a tripod easily from the plastic bottle from their hand,” added Amos and Sharon.
Foldabox by Rachel Wan & Mandy Wong
Many people would prefer dining out, rather than bringing their own lunchbox to work as it may cause many troubles such as leakages of juice, bringing multiple bags, and time wasted in lining-up for the microwave oven. For these reasons, the FOLDABOX set was designed especially for office ladies, bringing them a warm, convenience and new eating style.
The Design Concept is as follows:
The FOLDABOX set includes an Induction Cooker and a foldable lunchbox. The IC cooker can solve the time wasting problem in lining- up for a microwave oven as users can use it to reheat the General Safety Awareness lunchbox at their own desk. With the special folding design, it can be folded such as a piece of paper is folded. Users can fold it to a smaller size storing inside their bags …

An Example of Cell Analysis and Design in Lean Certification Practice
The lean certification practice includes many building blocks that cover a wide-range of manufacturing and business practices. Lean training helps a manufacturing company grow while keeping costs low, or even cutting costs by developing efficient means of growth. One aspect of the lean certification process is grouping machines and labor into cells. Cells have the property of being a small subset of the overall manufacturing line. By creating cells, expansion can be done in incremental amounts. These building blocks are also easier to move. Once a cell has been created, it can be placed at different locations along the manufacturing line, or it can be moved to another site all together. Therefore, creating these modular blocks is a major facet of the lean manufacturing process.
When approaching a manufacturing line for the first time, and trying to impose a lean certification on that line, an analysis of the process flow is a necessary first step. Typically, a product line is not laid out in cellular design. The usual design is to have one continuous flow from beginning to end. In fact, this was of laying out a manufacturing line makes sense, because it is efficient, so long as product demand doesn’t change. That is where the costs start to rise. Typically, a manufacturing line is setup to produce items at a certain rate, with an allowable amount of growth projected. The initial design generally does not allow for huge changes in demand, nor does it take into account future technological advances. A manufacturing line can grow old and inefficient, as technology advances and demand increases.
Cell analysis looks at the production line in terms of grouping things together, shorting travel distances, and putting intermediate inspection stations in place along the Industrial Production Engineering way. The goal is to create a self-sufficient unit that requires a certain output, and delivers an identifiable output at a certain rate, and already inspected for quality.
The usually boundaries of a cell are at existing machines already in the manufacturing line. Once the boundaries are distinguished, the equipment and the personnel within that cell can be moved or upgraded as necessary for advancement and inspection.
A cell usually incorporates more than one machine, although a single large machine that requires multiple people to operate may qualify as a cell all by itself. Sometimes controlling the machine is a place to begin to look for upgrading a piece of machinery.
Inspection is a key to cell design, as well. By requiring each module in the line to have an output that is quality inspected is more efficient that having a single large inspection at the end of the process.
Creating cells and making modular design part of the lean training process is a key Secondary Sector In Indonesia factor in allowing growth while keeping costs low for manufacturing operations.…
Industrial Product Design
Industrial product design means turning a great invention into a real product that can be produced en-masse and that means that you can make a profit from it, find fame from it, or just use it yourself to your benefit. There Industrial Engineering And Management Ppt are many great advantages to being able to turn something abstract in your mind into something physical and concrete that you can hold and manipulate, and particularly if you can manufacture it on an industrial level.
Here we will look at how to use industrial product design to create a product that you can start making money from.
Come Up With Your Idea: First of all you need to come up with your idea for a product or invention. If you are an individual who is trading then this will mean just coming up with a great moment of inspiration that you can work from. To do this you just need to think about things that would make your life easier. The more people it will appeal to the bigger your potential market, but the more specific your niche the easier it will be to communicate with prospective customers, to target your marketing and to beat the competition. Choose whether you want to be a small fish in a big pond or a big fish in a small pond and then come up with a unique solution to a problem that you face in that capacity. Often combining things together is a simple way to come up with inspiration.
If you are in a business then you will have facilities in place for this – people who are there to have focus groups and discussions for new products that can Concept Of Manufacturing Pdf earn you cash, so get them to start coming up with something new for you and make sure that they are in a conducive environment to coming up with new ideas.
Design: From here you will want to make a rough mockup of how this item will actually work – think of the materials and the other things you will use and think about whether the idea is actually plausible. It’s no good just have the idea for an ‘unlimited beer glass’ – you actually need a plan for how you could make it. Otherwise it’s not an invention, it’s just an idea.
Industrial Product Design: Industrial product design is where you use a service to turn this crude sketch into a real product design. They will likely use CAD (computer aided design) to create a 3D model of your product. This will involve information regarding the materials and more, and the way they design it will ensure that it is as cost effective and as sturdy as possible. You will be producing the best possible item with the smallest amount of materials, and using the CAD software you will be able to rotate it, view it from all angles, and ultimately send it to a factory for mass production.…
Design Rhyme: An Insightful Look at How to Make Your Designs Prosper!
Just like the iambic pentameter of a Shakespearean sonnet, great Objectives Of Industry Analysis design satisfies us. It rhymes with our wants and our needs.
Have you ever painfully listened to your favorite song through a pair of clumsily designed headphones? Did you think, “Why did they even make these? Why aren’t they softer, lighter, better?” The truth is that they were poorly designed. No one stepped back to see that sometimes comfort is more important than price, and you don’t have to sacrifice chic for wear-ability.
Everyone has to design something at some point, and anyone can have an idea. However, even if great inspiration comes in a snap, the execution of that concept needs time to develop. Deiter Rams, the former design director of Braun for 30 Performance Of Service Sector years, has had his share of thinking over design. Many of his pieces created 20 years ago are still being referenced in design today and are finding homes in museums, like MOMA. Here is part of a statement he gives about “good design”:
“Good design should be design should make a product design is design is consistent in every but not least, good design is as little design as possible…”
Deiter’s points ring so true when focusing on design. Everything should be questioned before it is put to market, so that the client isn’t the one thinking it over. Addressing the right questions will allow you to come up with the right solutions. You could turn each one of his statements around to figure out how your design is innovative, useful, honest etc. His point that “good design is as little design as possible” should be freeing to you. Discover a way to translate your vision without beating the client over the head with it.
The results of your labor will be effortless design. As Jonathan Ive, Senior VP of Industrial Design at Apple, says it will leave everyone saying, “Why would it be any other way?” Every designer has to start somewhere and thoughtfulness can bring you to the top. So the next time you have something to design, whether tangible or conceptual, think it over and reference this article. You could become the Google of search engines, the Coke of soft drinks, or the ChapStick of lip balms.

Industrial Logo Design – Four Surefire Ways To Hire A Graphic Design Company
Which state should be classified as being the most developed in the world?
This question has invariably been in debate for centuries. One of the mostly preferred criteria is to judge a country’s position by its gross domestic product, it economic condition, its low poverty rate etc but from my point of view, a country should be judged by the number of industries it has.
The more the country is industrially richer, the more it climbs the ladder of success. Countries like Norway, Australia, and U.S are one of the highly-developed countries of the world and this is why the graphic design business is on its boom globally.
You must be wondering, “What is the link between industries and graphic design companies?”
If industries will be increased on this speedy rate, there is always a call for effective marketing strategies in order to stand out from the rest and an industrial logo design is the latest trend in contemporary marketing schemes.
These corporate brand marks would work wonder for your business provided they are designed well. Designing well here means a brand mark that is according to the business nature you are running. At times, inexperienced graphic designers come up with brand marks that are not in accordance with the industry and thus, end up on undesired results.
These business brand marks represents an Business Tendency Index Indonesia globally, this is why; it should never be neglected at any case.
For this, you have to make sure that the graphic design service is experienced and has a good name in the market before actually farming out your order to them. The best way to find a service is to graze through their website in order to determine if they will be able to design your corporate identity.
So, what to check on their website?
1- First of all, you must see if their website is pleasing to the eyes. This shows how much they are professional. A service who has designed their website carelessly would obviously design your brand mark with more carelessness.
2- Secondly, have a look on their web content. I am not asking to you to trace their grammatical mistakes but what information Indonesia Garment Industry they have mentioned about the company. The older the company is, the more professionalism you can expect out of them.
3- Thirdly, you must see if there are ample logo design samples available on their website in order to judge the quality of work they are doing. Moreover, you should also check if there is any industry logo design sample available to see if they would be able to deliver you with the work you want?
4- Lastly, check their price and packaging to see if its under your pocket’s reach or not. If you get a service that provides exceptional quality work on considerably affordable rates then we can say that you are very lucky. If you find such service then don’t waste any further time and hire them as …
Media Center Voice Remote – A Design Challenge
The industrial design of our voice remote for media center was one of the major steps that we had to accomplish to get to market. The media center software plugin that forms the basis for our voice interface had been in development for almost eighteen months. The hardware development of the associated remote control internal electronics had been progressing for at least twelve months. These were needed first, Use Of Technology In Different Fields to demonstrate the idea. But to make it real we needed a form. A shape to contain the magic. This was one of the most interesting aspects of the project for me. I have previously been involved in high volume consumer devices, but not something so tactile. It needed to round off the product and provide the final polish. The outside appearance needed to measure up to the internal advanced technology.
We worked with industrial designers to get to the final design. The first step was to give them a brief, the guidelines that we thought were needed to do the technology justice. The brief took a while to crystallize, but it soon became obvious after some discussion. A voice remote control has to stand out from the crowd, because it’s not just another remote control, it’s got voice! It has to look distinctive, and still function as an ergonomic, usable media center accessory. There were also the technically detailed aspects of the brief such as button type, layout and styling to meet the Hans Swildens Linkedin criteria for a media center addon product. But more importantly there were the higher level, aesthetic elements, which we eventual summarized as “distinctive, stylish, a new type of interface device”.
Our industrial design partners initially produced three prototypes which were used to examine possible directions. One of these want on to be what is now in the shops. The two that went by the wayside were interesting and we may yet do something with the design ideas they showed. We incorporated some aspects of each into the final design.
I believe we succeeded in achieving what we had specified in the initial brief. The finished product is a sculpted, ergonomic design in black with silver highlights. The buttons are hard covered with a positive action. There is subtle back-lighting of the whole face. The distinctive logo at the top highlights the microphone, and gives visual feedback to the user. This distinguishes it as not just another remote control.…
CAD Sustainable Design Fundamentals For Engineers, Architects And Manufacturing Professionals
New regulations and greater environmental awareness are advancing the need for green initiatives and sustainable design. More and more government and private contracts require sustainable solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve energy What Is Tertiary Industry efficiency, and reduce environmental impact. New legislation and existing agencies, such as the LEED certification program, are being used as benchmarks for what defines sustainable design for industrial products and building projects.
For professionals today, digital design is an integral part of incorporating green techniques into existing projects. Engineers, architects, and manufacturing professionals can all benefit from digital design and the utility of CAD drawings. Whether a recent graduate or an experienced engineer, digital design helps promote the fundamentals of sustainable solutions.
Defining The Impact Of Sustainable Design
Every improvement in production, from industrial products to entire buildings, requires a metric to quantify the benefits of innovation. Many agencies and legislators are turning towards carbon footprint as an accessible metric for evaluating green proposals. Carbon footprint is defined as the total greenhouse gases emitted as a result of the manufacture of industrial products, constructing and maintaining structures, or any other industrial activity.
Carbon footprint takes into account all uses of energy and materials for a given process and equates that into an amount of emitted greenhouse gases. Every stage of design and manufacturing is taken into account. For example, the energy and cost required to harvest natural resources, process them into building materials, and transport them to a construction site are all components of a carbon footprint. Operational costs are also included, such as electricity or fuel spent for operating equipment, heating or cooling a building, along with water and sewage needs. In this way, every improvement to a project can be quantified, as materials and energy are conserved.
Understanding carbon footprint gives professionals a focal point for their designs. Integrating these points with digital design and CAD drawings is the most effective way to satisfy sustainable initiatives.
CAD Drawings And Digital Design
Software and digital resources are perfectly tailored for integrating new manufacturing and building techniques with environmental concerns. CAD drawings provide a virtual environment for experimentation and analysis while creating a foundation for eventual fabrication and construction. Sustainability centers on the key concepts of material optimization, material selection, and energy efficiency.
Material optimization is a technique for reducing material needs in industrial products and architectural projects. For example, injection molding simulations can be performed to optimize mold parts in order Technology Industry History to reduce the total amount of material needed without compromising function. Industrial products that can be made with less material have a huge impact on carbon footprint, saving both materials and energy.
The choice of materials to use is also an important element when considering green initiatives. CAD drawings allow for comprehensive simulations in a virtual environment to choose alternate materials that still meet specifications. In this way, less energy intensive or locally available materials can be used for environmentally conscious production.
There are a number of modules …
Value Addition Through Industrial Design
Industrial Design is a systematic application of science and arts to design a product or solution which is mutually beneficial for the user and the manufacturer. This mutually beneficial process is the foundation for creating a value rich product or service. Companies are investing millions today on Industrial design to create environments, systems and processes which will create the world’s best products / services.
But how does Industrial design contribute the most Industrial Technology News to value addition to a product or service?
Industrial design, being a creative & scientific process, focuses on the process than the end. This focus leads to research and analysis at every stage of product development. Industrial design focuses on the process of production as well as the marketability of the product. Commonly, Industrial design takes into account each and every process which leads to creation of a superior and acceptable solution to a customer’s need.
Industrial Design is applied for new product development as well as to enhance an existing product. The usual process involves:
1. Analysis of the User & his/her needs – This is the stage where an Industrial designer evaluates the need for a product and whether it will cater to the user. User analysis will also study the interaction of user with the products & its related responses. This helps in creating value because this stage defines the product and it’s attributes.
2. Comparative Product Study helps to evaluate the product vis-a-vis other products in the market. It helps in creating an innovative product as well as a product which can best suit the user needs. It also is a contributing factor for pricing.
3. Prototyping and Product attributes definition is based on the previous two processes and lead to a prototype of the product which is then Small Scale Industries Pdf refined to create the end product. The end product can be such that it is easy to use as well as the best answer to the customer’s need.
This research process is followed by marketing analysis to define the process of production which will comprise of:
1. Raw material acquisition, supplier and logistics – which will contribute to the pricing of the product.
2. Distribution channel
3. Location of the production unit
4. Ergonomics
All the above combined with other detailed processes will ensure that the consumer has to pay an affordable price for the product which best suits his/her needs. Here, price and need are the value additions to the product. Since, Industrial design will help create the best processes; it will also ensure that the worker who actually is at each stage of the production process interacts with the systems effectively and efficiently. This in turn increases the productivity and quality leading to a product which is high in quality and low in price thus creating customer value and also benefits the manufacturer.
Companies such as Design Industry are experts in Industrial Design with over 75 awards to their credit for various Industrial Design solutions they …
How to Design a Custom Industrial Computer System
In the world of industry you are often going to find that it’s incredibly hard to design a decent computer system that can handle all of the required tasks. This is why it’s important that you evaluate exactly what the main servers are being used for, and then ask yourself how you can make them do their job better.
In a typical industry, there is database software being used at just about any given time. This being the case you’re going to want to make sure that the database can be accessed smoothly and effectively. This means that if you have a business in which fifty people need to access the database directly, you’re going to have a lot of processes on your hands. But what about workers who are using hand held scanners? Believe it or not that can also add to the complexity and the resource requirements on the database. That being the case you have potentially hundreds or even thousands of different people accessing the database on any given day. Can your servers handle that?
If the answer to that is no, then you are going to want to do a complete overhaul of your system and build yourself a custom industrial computer system. You’re going to need to go over what sort of parts you might need. First of all you are likely to require a server rack, linking them all together so that they can actually share the load. Typically each machine should have the same amount of processing power while working in harmony with every other system present. You’re going to want to make sure that you have as much RAM as humanly possible because that helps out with the multiple processes.
Make sure that you have a lot of hard drive space in this industrial computer. It needs space because there are tons of orders being sent through the system and the majority of them are being stored on the drive. Essentially you need to be sure that it can actually handle it! It is recommended that you have drives of at least one terabyte if not more.
By doing this you also ensure that the server banks will be able to run the database software that you probably have tucked away in some drawer waiting for Industrial Engineering Vs Civil Engineering the day that your server bank could actually handle it. One thing that you can rejoice in is that these machines do not need dedicated graphics cards.
Since the machine will never actually be displaying anything or if they are it won’t be anything too complex, so there’s no Latest Innovation reason to invest in a dedicated graphics card; unless, of course, you had a burning desire to play an MMO on your server.
Working in industry, you must understand that accidents happen, and for that reason you need to make sure that your computers are kept in a safe place, far away from employee related accidents or overheating. Always ensure …
